I am enchanted with the idea that something simple can grow into something big. When I create a painting, I start with something small and easy, like a circle, and by repeating and expanding on that starting point, the work gains texture and substance. This leads each piece to become a series of discoveries for me. I love not knowing what an artwork will become until I’ve reached the point where it is something! Each tiny decision affects the next, and in the end my paintings are not just collections of one shape, but a map of seemingly insignificant choices that affect the whole piece. Painting just one circle in a different place could alter the work drastically! I’ve found that taking one step and seeing where it leads makes painting a mindful experience for me, and I cherish the organic process of creation.

Hannah Wald creates primarily abstract, textural 2-D work. She earned a Bachelors of Arts from Brigham Young University in April, 2025. In her work, she layers information on the canvas, with recent paintings featuring clusters of tightly painted circles that give the work a look akin to calm TV static. She is inspired by artworks that demonstrate visible brushstrokes and bold colors. She currently lives and works in West Valley City, UT.
